Maxx Neon Page 10
“So you don’t care that I told people we had sex?”
“I’m an adult,” Max said. “And I’m not ashamed of you.”
Eli closed his eyes, sighing with relief. “You’re so nice,” he said. “I’m glad that I went to that gig.”
“So am I,” Max said. Then, before he could think it through, he looked at Eli and grinned at him. “Though if we do date seriously, I’ll probably make you sign an NDA.”
“Okay,” Eli replied, looking up at him and kissing him on the mouth. “Where do I sign?”
Max’s heart leaped in his chest. “Do you mean it?”
“Yes,” Eli said. “Absolutely. And I mean to keep you company until you get better.”
Max shook his head. “Dating me isn’t easy,” he said. “I’m away a lot.”
“It’s almost as if I could take my work with me.”
“Eli, are you sure?” Max asked, his heart in his throat. “You seemed to be avoiding it so much.”
“Because I thought you were. But being around you makes me happy. And I’m not saying we’re going to get married, though my favorite color is purple and my birthstone is the aquamarine, just so you know. But being around you makes me happy, and I’m done running away from being happy. Aren’t you?”
“Yes,” Max replied, kissing him on the mouth again, his heart doing flips in his chest, but the feeling in his stomach settling. He felt warm, safe, complete. For a change. And he could do with the company while he got better. “I’m done running away. So will you stay?”
“Sure,” Eli said. “For a couple of days. Then we can work out the logistics. How does that work?”
Max smiled back at him. “Forever would work too.”
